Electric Furnace Steel Line

Introduction

The electric furnace steel factory of the Tube, Pipe and Bar Business Unit consists of two production lines, namely, the round billet production line and the square billet production line.

The round billet production line, one of the major sub-projects of Baosteel¡¯s Phase-3 Project, was put into production in December, 1996 with a planned annual capacity of one million tons of liquid steel and 0.96 million tons of steel billets. Its major equipment includes the 150-ton two-shell ultra-high-power direct-current electric arc furnace (EAF), the 150-ton ladle furnace (LF), the 150-ton vacuum degasser (VD) designed by the Italian company Danieli, and the six-strand round and square billet arc continuous caster. Its products include §¶178 and §¶195 round billets and 160¡Á160 square billets. The category of round billets covers OCTGs, petroleum transmission pipes, boiler pipes (including high-, medium- and low-pressure) and regular carbon structural steel and low-alloy structural steel pipes, while the category of square billets covers cold forging steel, hard wire steel, spring steel and welding wire steel.

The square billet production line was put into production in May, 2008 with a planned annual capacity of 1 million tons of qualified billets. In addition to its supporting auxiliary facilities, its major equipment includes one 150-ton UHP AC electric arc furnace, one 150-ton duplex ladle furnace (LF), one 150-ton duplex VD/VOD, and one four-strand square billet continuous caster with a cross section of 320¡Á425. Its major products include the tire cord steel, the high alloy steel, the bearing steel, the gear steel, the spring steel, the structural alloy steel, the welding wire steel, the steel for offshore mooring chain cable, and the cold heading steel.

Baosteel produces steel products with imported raw materials and advanced iron and steel making technology and equipment to ensure stable liquid steel composition and good steel purity with low contents of harmful components such as S, P and N, which provides a solid foundation for high quality of steel pipes, tubes and bars of Baosteel.
