Instructions for storage of grain-oriented steel
The insulation coating of the grain-oriented silicon steel is composed of a magnesium silicate layer and a layer of Ludox insulation coating. In normal circumstances, it has good resistance to corrosion. However, after a long time of storage in an inferior environment, there will be high risks of corrosion.
If the storage period is expected to be more than half a year, it’s recommended that the following measures should be taken:
1. Immediately use those with signs of corrosion;
2. Ensure that the packing is intact. After long-distance transport, marine shipping, or repetitive lifting, the airtightness of the package of the grain-oriented silicon steel may have been damaged. If it is confirmed that there has been some damage, the grain-oriented silicon steel needs to be re-packed. During the packing process, ensure that the new anti-rust paper has good resistance to corrosion and that the steel is strictly sealed;
3. Strictly control the storage environment. The area for storing grain-oriented silicon steel should be properly sealed to ensure that the storage area’s △T≥5(△T= coil temperature – dew point of the storage area);
4. If proper, choose appropriate coating to seal edges of the grain-oriented silicon steel. Consult manufacturers such as the anti-rust paper manufacturer to get specific information about the types of coatings for edge sealing.
