Research & Development Equipment
The Pipe, Tube and Bar Steel Technology Center is equipped with dedicated equipment for research, development and testing of pipe, tube and bar steel products. It has equipment for sample preparation, metallographic phase and hardness testing, tubing and casing thread machining, physical performance, hydrogen sulfide and carbon dioxide corrosion, fatigue of wire rod and cold heading. It can conduct metallographic phase and hardness tests on materials, full-size physical performance tests on steel pipes and tubes, collapse resistance tests on tubing and casing, hydrogen sulfide stress tests, and carbon dioxide corrosion tests. It can also conduct performance tests regarding fatigue, torque and cold heading of wire rod products for auto parts.

Composite tensile testing machine
Testing equipment used for performance tests of connectors of tubing and casing used for oil and gas exploitation and production as well as mechanical behavior studies of tubing/casing strings. Supplied by SES from America, it is the most advanced composite tensile testing machine in the world. Maximum tensile force: 1500 tons; maximum compression force: 1125 tons; maximum internal pressure: 221MPa; maximum external pressure: 310MPa. With five modes, including tension, compression, internal pressure, external pressure and bending, it can also perform thermal cycling and composite load tests at a temperature below 350 ¡æ and test connection and sealing performance of tubing and casing connectors in accordance with testing requirements of ISO 13679.
Makeup and Breakout Testing Machines
Important equipment used for testing thread gluing resistance of threads of tubing and casing. Respectively provided by MOHR and ECKEL, makeup and breakout testing machine can be used to test thread gluing resistance of tubing and casing. Testing range include all tubing and casing products from 2 3/8" to 4". The maximum torque values are 30000ft-lb and 60000ft-lb respectively. They can perform makeup, circulating makeup and final makeup tests.
Collapse and Burst Testing Machine
Important equipment used for testing collapse and internal pressure burst resistance of tubing and casing. Supplied by Yamamoto, it has a maximum pressure of 200MPa. For collapse tests, it can perform collapse and failure tests on tubing and casing ranging from 2-3/8in to 10-3/4in. For internal pressure burst tests, it can perform hydrostatic pressure and internal pressure failure tests on OCTG and transmission pipes.
Special thread connector processing test line
Important equipment used for studies of machining and cutting processes of tubing and casing thread connector samples as well as service lives of cutting tools. Supplied by MOR SEIKI, it can be used for processing of special threads for all tubing and casing bodies and couplings of less than 13 3/8" and provide the technology center with powerful support in research and development of special threads. Besides, the special thread connector processing test line also has equipment for pipe cutting and machining as well as for pipe end thread stress peening.
