Thickness Reduction for Crown Caps
With the increasingly intense competition in the metal closure and end market, cost reduction and efficiency increase have become a must for all cap manufacturers. Traditionally, SR tinplates are used for manufacturing crown caps, the thickness of which is around 0.23mm. As many domestic users require the steel for crown caps to be bending resistant, further thickness reduction of SR tinplates would make it hard to meet the requirements. Compared with SR tinplates, DR tinplates have better hardness and yield strength and are thinner.
Through the development of tinplates for DR crown caps and the research of cap making technology, DR tinplates that are 0.17mm to 0.19mm thick have been used to produce crown caps in replacement of SR tinplates of 0.230 mm to meet users' goal of cost reduction and efficiency enhancement. While sharing with users the benefits from thickness reduction, Baosteel have also increased its share in the market of tinplates for crown caps.
